Accessible Tourism Information – Otto Tours Australia

Otto Tours Australia is committed to making our tours as welcoming and accessible as reasonably possible. Our small-group tours travel through metropolitan, regional and remote areas of Western Australia and the Northern Territory, and accessibility can vary considerably depending on the destination, accommodation, activities and vehicle used.

We encourage guests with accessibility requirements to contact us before booking so we can discuss individual needs and advise what assistance may be possible.

Vehicles and boarding

Our tours operate in small touring vehicles and buses. Access normally requires passengers to step up into and out of the vehicle.

Some vehicles may have higher steps and may not be suitable for guests who are unable to board independently or with limited assistance.

Our standard touring vehicles are not equipped with wheelchair lifts. If you use a wheelchair, mobility scooter or walking aid, please contact us before booking so we can discuss the vehicle being used on your particular tour and whether your mobility equipment can be safely carried.

Mobility and walking

Our tours include a mixture of sightseeing from the vehicle, short walks, lookouts, visitor centres and nature-based attractions.

Depending on the itinerary, guests may encounter:

  • uneven ground
  • gravel or sandy paths
  • steps
  • boardwalks
  • inclines
  • rocky surfaces
  • unsealed areas
  • hot weather and exposed outdoor locations

Many walks are optional, and where possible guests may remain at the vehicle or visitor facility if they do not wish to participate.
Some national parks and remote locations have limited accessible infrastructure.

Assistance with luggage

Our tour team can generally assist with loading and unloading normal luggage.

Guests should still be able to manage their own personal belongings and any essential mobility or medical equipment unless alternative arrangements have been agreed with Otto Tours before departure.

Toilets and facilities

We schedule regular comfort stops wherever practical.

On long-distance and remote touring days, toilet facilities may sometimes be basic and accessible toilets may not always be available.

Accessible facilities are generally more common in major towns, hotels, visitor centres and larger attractions than in remote locations.

Accommodation

Our tours use a variety of accommodation including hotels, motels, resorts, chalets and park accommodation.

Accessibility standards differ between properties.

If you require:

  • a ground-floor room
  • step-free access
  • an accessible bathroom
  • a walk-in shower
  • grab rails
  • a room close to reception
  • other specific accessibility features

please let us know when booking so we can request suitable accommodation where available.
Requests are subject to availability and the facilities offered by each accommodation provider.

Hearing and vision requirements

If you have hearing or vision requirements, please let us know before departure.

Our guides provide verbal information throughout the tour and can, where practical, offer additional explanations or assistance.

Guests who require specific communication support should discuss this with us before booking.

Cognitive, sensory and neurodiverse requirements

We welcome guests with different communication, sensory and cognitive needs.

Our small-group format can often allow a more personal and flexible approach. However, some travel days are long and may include changing environments, busy attractions, weather extremes and unfamiliar accommodation.

Please contact us so we can discuss your needs and whether the itinerary is suitable.

Assistance animals

Guests travelling with an accredited assistance animal should contact Otto Tours before booking.

Because our tours include shared vehicles, accommodation, national parks and third-party attractions, advance planning may be required.

Medical requirements

Guests are responsible for carrying their own medication and any necessary medical equipment.

Some tours travel through remote areas where medical services may be a significant distance away.

Please advise us before travel if you have mobility, medical or accessibility requirements that may affect your participation in the tour.

In an emergency, our guides will follow appropriate emergency procedures and contact emergency services where required.

Remote-area travel

Some Otto Tours itineraries travel through remote parts of Western Australia and the Northern Territory.

These areas may have:

  • limited mobile phone coverage
  • long distances between towns
  • limited medical facilities
  • extreme temperatures
  • limited accessible infrastructure
  • basic roadside rest facilities

We recommend discussing any significant accessibility or medical requirements with us before confirming a remote-area tour.

Individual assessment

Accessibility needs vary from person to person. For this reason, we prefer to discuss your requirements directly rather than make assumptions about what you can or cannot do.

Please contact us before booking and tell us about any assistance, mobility equipment or accessibility requirements you have.

We will do our best to provide accurate information about the vehicle, accommodation, activities and destinations included in your chosen tour.
