Otto Tours Australia is committed to reducing the environmental impact of our touring operations while continuing to provide safe, high-quality travel experiences throughout Western Australia and the Northern Territory.

As a small-group tour operator, our main sources of greenhouse-gas emissions are associated with vehicle fuel use, accommodation, electricity, business operations and third-party tourism services.

Our approach

We aim to reduce emissions wherever practical through careful planning and efficient operations.

Our current and ongoing actions include:

operating small-group tours, helping reduce the number of individual vehicles required
planning routes carefully to minimise unnecessary driving and backtracking
maintaining our vehicles regularly to support fuel efficiency
monitoring fuel consumption across our touring fleet
avoiding unnecessary vehicle idling
combining transfers and passenger movements where practical
encouraging responsible use of electricity, water and air-conditioning
reducing paper use through electronic itineraries, vouchers and booking documents
reducing single-use products and unnecessary waste
using local suppliers and services where practical
encouraging guests to respect national parks, wildlife and natural environments
following Leave No Trace principles and DBCA park requirements

Vehicle emissions

Long-distance touring is an important part of our business, particularly on routes through remote Western Australia and the Northern Territory.

At present, many remote touring routes require reliable conventional vehicles because suitable low-emission alternatives and charging infrastructure are limited.

We will continue to review new vehicle technology and lower-emission options as they become practical and suitable for remote touring.

Measuring and reducing emissions

Otto Tours Australia reviews the major sources of emissions associated with our operations, particularly vehicle fuel consumption.

We aim to progressively improve our environmental performance by:

tracking fuel use
improving route efficiency
maintaining appropriate tyre pressures and vehicle servicing
reducing unnecessary journeys
reviewing more fuel-efficient vehicles when replacing fleet vehicles
monitoring opportunities to reduce energy use in our office and operational activities
