The famous Canning Stock Route is

  • the all-wheel-drive dream route for everyone who loves the Australian outback.
  • the longest and loneliest, almost 2000 km long off-road vehicle route in the world
  • leading through four desert areas in Western Australia and Northern Territory:
    Gibson Desert
    Little Sandy Desert
    Great Sandy Desert
    Tanami Desert

All this can be safely enjoyed as a TAG-ALONG TOUR or as a PRIVATE GUIDED TOUR guided by a very experienced tour guide.

 

Travel description

The Canning Stock Route is a semi-desert crossing through breathtaking landscapes, unexpectedly colorful flora, and varied fauna. But also the encounter with the indigenous people and their rock paintings is planned.

It is the longest and loneliest off-road vehicle route in the world. It is located in Western Australia, is almost 2000 km long, extends from Wiluna in the south to Billiluna in the north, and leads through the Gibson Desert, Little Sandy Desert, Great Sandy Desert, and the Tanami Desert.

The best time to travel is between May and September.

Travel style

Tag-Along Tour is a guided group tour in individual off-road vehicles for two people.

You travel, drive and sleep in an off-road vehicle – camper for one or two people, equipped with everything you need. Alternatively, we can organise an off-road vehicle with a roof tent.

Participation in your off-road vehicle is also possible. If you don’t want to drive yourself, you can book a ride.

Day 1

On the first day of your adventure tour, we will do the necessary preparations. The first step is to pick up rental vehicles in the morning. Step two is doing the shopping for 14 days, loading cars, and test driving them.

Day 2 + 3

We meet at Wintersun Caravan Park, North Stuart Highway & Head Street, Alice Springs NT 0870. 8.30 is departure towards Tanami Road, and we have our first break at Tilmouth Well, about 160 away from Alice springs. In the vicinity of the on 1.1. In 2011, the formerly well-known Roadhouse Rabbit Flat closed, we will set up the first camp. The next morning we continue towards Western Australia, past Chila Well, the Granites, and the Tanami Mountains. In the afternoon, we reach the Aboriginal community Billiluna. If we are expecting guests from Darwin, the journey continues to Wolfe Creek Meteorite Crater. Otherwise, we stay in the vicinity of Billiluna.

Day 4 to 16

The real adventure begins on day 4, the Canning Stock Route The CSR is a 2000 km long track that left to its own devices. The current state is unpredicted and technical problems of any kind cannot be ruled out. For this reason, the places of accommodation are not predictable precisely in advance. In Billiluna, you will fill up again and. in a small general store of the indigenous people, there is the last shopping possibility.

Day 17 + 18

From Wiluna, we take the Goldfields Highway towards Meekatharra and turn left towards Cue and Mount Magnet. There we will spend the last night. From there, it goes via Paynes Find, Wubin, Dalwallinu to New Norcia, the only Benedictine monastery village in Australia. After this final highlight, the tour will finally end in Perth.

Day 19

Final day, we return the vehicle and prepare for the onward journey.

Day 2 + 3

We meet on a parking lot near Heirisson Island near downtown. 8.30 am departure towards Mt Magnet, past New Norcia, the only Benedictine monastery village in Australia. Then we continue to Wiluna, the actual starting point of the Canning Stock Route. We stop in Cue, a small town with well-preserved buildings from their heyday. Then comes Meekatharra, where you can fill up again. We arrive in Wiluna early enough to visit Well 1 and North Pool.

Day 4 to 16

From day 4, the real adventure begins, the Canning Stock Route. The CSR is a 2000 km long track and left to its own devices. Refueling takes place in Wiluna. In a small general store, there is the last shopping opportunity.

Day 17 + 18

From Billiluna, we take Tanami Road south. We leave Western Australia and come to the Northern Territory. After we have passed the Tanami Mountains, the Granites, and Chilla Well, we reach about the former Roadhouse Rabbit Flat, which unfortunately has been closed since January 1st, 2011. At Tillmouth Well, we take a break from refueling. Then we reach Alice Springs.

Day 19

Final day, we return the vehicle and prepare for the onward journey.

Special Instructions

  • A release and disclaimer must be signed before starting the tour.
  • For all participants, it is recommended to take out suitable travel insurance also covering cancellation and termination of the trip.
  • For German participants, the conclusion of an ARAG protection letter is also recommended. which is unfortunately not offered in other countries.

  • 4WD camper with full equipment, 300km per day, liability insurance for the off-road vehicle with a deductible of AUD 8000.00. We recommend Comprehensive coverage.

Surcharges (strongly recommended)

Fully comprehensive insurance without a deductible, valid on the CSR, per day, per vehicle, including prepaid refilling of the gas bottle, 1 x table, two camping chairs. (Just with a current rental request, we can determine the costs)

Payment and cancellation conditions

  • 20% of the travel price is due when booking
  • 80% of the travel price is due 60 days before the start of the trip.

In the event of a cancellation, the following cancellation conditions apply:

  • 20% of the travel price is due up to 60 days before the start of the trip
  • 40% of the travel price is due up to 40 days before the start of the trip,
  • 60% of the travel price is due up to 30 days before the start of the trip
  • 80% of the travel price is due up to 14 days before the start of the trip,
  • After that, 100% of the travel price is due
